Personal comment:

Determined to establish a high quality, fully functional cardiothoracic Unit at the KHMH where it will be accessible and affordable to all Belizeans.

Mr. Adrian Coye’s motto is “Try to do your best everyday for everyone.” He is ever mindful that the need is greatest in Belize and that it is a developing country. He strives to maintain high standards and recognize that it is a privilege to be able to serve his people. “If you don’t treat your own people properly,” says Dr. Coye, “how can you expect others to do so?”

Early in his training he was struck by the dilemma poverty and lack of access to his field caused patients, a field which is underprovided for in the Caribbean in general and in Belize of course. He is the first Belizean to be so trained and currently is the only one in his field in Belize. Equally important to him is that others follow in this field, and sharing his knowledge is also a priority with him. His specialty blends the mastery of the techniques of surgery with critical care medicine and general medicine and specialist medicine. So it is a highly specialized field, but has many applications.

Dr. Coye credits his family with his success. They have been his strength and have sacrificed immensely. After being away from Belize for almost two decades, reestablishing links he had, and doing so with his family, is how he spends any free time he has.
