The sixth pre-graduate year was a year of internship. While he was a Student Assistant Tutor of Internal Medicine during pre-graduate years, he got to prefer surgery while doing his internship rotation; this led to a residency of four years in General Surgery which was completed in November 1991.

Dr. Lisa Johnson

Dr. Lisa Johnson joined the KHMH family in january of 2014 as the Clinical Coordinator of Emergency Services.  She is the first woman to complete postgraduate trraining in General Surgery at the University of the west Indies,  and the first graduate of that program to complete a Trauma fellowship.  She has extensive experience in her field, having trained and worked in both the Caribbean and North America, in both public and private hospitals.

She is now applying her extensive knowledge and experience to the task of helping to upgrade and transform the Accident and Emergency Department at KHMH.  This will be achieved by the application of the foundations of the basic practice of evidence based medicine, continuing medical education, teamwork and upgrading knowledge and skills.  She insists that the members of staffexhibit professionalism and empathy for patients and relatives.  Her ideology is that there are no shortcuts to achieving these goals as a change in attitude, culture and a sense of personal responsibility is required.  "Action springs not from thought, but from a readiness for responsibility."
